A Rapid City man has been sentenced to federal prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy. U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier sentenced Travis Orr, 35, to 19 and a half years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Orr was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Orr was indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2023 and pleaded guilty on September 6, 2024. Between the fall of 2021 and November 2022, Orr participated in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine across South Dakota. He obtained methamphetamine from co-conspirators multiple times and distributed it within the state. During his involvement, approximately 30 pounds of methamphetamine were moved by the group. Additionally, Orr engaged in trading firearms for methamphetamine.
The case was investigated by the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team (UNET) and the South Dakota Highway Patrol. UNET includes law enforcement personnel from various agencies including the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the South Dakota National Guard. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Hodges prosecuted the case.
Following sentencing, Orr was immediately remanded into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
