Mount Hope man pleads guilty to fentanyl distribution charges

Robert Lee Moran, a 46-year-old resident of Mount Hope, West Virginia, has entered a guilty plea to charges related to the distribution of fentanyl. The plea was made in Beckley federal court.

Court records reveal that on January 29, 2024, Moran sold approximately one gram of fentanyl to a confidential informant in Beckley. His sentencing is scheduled for April 11, 2025. Moran could face up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years under supervised release, and a potential fine of $1 million.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson. He praised the efforts of the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit for their investigation. This unit includes members from the West Virginia State Police, Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and Beckley Police Department.

The proceedings were overseen by United States Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn. Assistant United States Attorney Alexander A. Redmon is handling the prosecution.
