US introduces act for national immersive technology strategy

In Washington, the introduction of the United States Leadership in Immersive Technology Act aims to establish an advisory panel for a national immersive technology strategy. The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), a prominent think tank for science and technology policy, issued a statement regarding this legislative development.

Policy Analyst Alex Ambrose from ITIF stated, "The United States Leadership in Immersive Technology Act of 2024 signals long-awaited federal interest in immersive technologies (XR) and recognizes the immense economic and social impact of XR on Americans' lives." Ambrose emphasized that the U.S., being home to major XR companies and hardware producers, is well-positioned to lead globally in this field. He further noted, "Congress is right to recognize the need for a national strategy to advance this mission."

The proposed Immersive Technology Advisory Panel would aim to provide guidance for future legislation promoting innovation within the industry. According to Ambrose, "This bill represents an important step toward driving innovation and positioning the United States as a leader in immersive technologies."
