Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III has announced a presidential nomination for Army Maj. Gen. Brett G. Sylvia to be appointed as a lieutenant general. If confirmed, Sylvia will take on the role of director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy, J-5, Joint Staff; and serve as a senior member of the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations Military Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

Maj. Gen. Sylvia is currently leading as the commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell in Kentucky.
