The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced that Richard Leroy Osborn III, a 47-year-old resident of Wagoner County, Oklahoma, was convicted by a federal jury on eight counts of child sexual abuse. The charges include five counts of aggravated sexual abuse and three counts of abusive sexual contact. Two of these convictions carry mandatory life sentences.

The trial began with testimony on December 9, 2024, and concluded with guilty verdicts on December 11, 2024. Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Osborn sexually assaulted three children from 2011 until May 2022, when one victim disclosed the abuse. Additionally, it was shown that Osborn had previously abused three other minors while already registered as a sex offender.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to these convictions. The offenses took place in Wagoner County within the Cherokee and Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservations in Eastern Oklahoma.

Presiding over the trial was U.S. District Judge Kea W. Riggs from New Mexico, who is sitting by assignment in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Judge Riggs ordered a presentence report before scheduling sentencing. Until then, Osborn will remain in custody under the United States Marshals Service.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Morgan Muzljakovich and Nicole Paladino represented the prosecution.
