Shakeitha Wiley, a 41-year-old resident of New Orleans, has been sentenced to three years of probation for mail theft. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans following her sentencing on December 5, 2024. Wiley had previously pled guilty to the unauthorized opening of mail, a violation under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1703(b). In addition to probation, she is required to pay a $25 mandatory special assessment fee and restitution and fine totaling $210.

Court documents reveal that on or about August 25, 2023, Wiley, who worked as a mail handler at the New Orleans Processing and Distribution Center, opened a parcel not addressed to her. She removed two gift cards worth $210 from the package and later used them for personal gain.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the United States Postal Service's Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Calogero from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
