David Degrasse, a 54-year-old resident of West Warwick, Rhode Island, was arraigned on charges related to the interstate transportation of stolen property. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman, along with Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the FBI, and New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James.
According to the indictment, Degrasse allegedly transported approximately $9,300 from an ATM machine in Greene County to Connecticut on April 27, 2023. It is important to note that these charges are accusations and Degrasse is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
If convicted, Degrasse faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Sentencing would be determined by a judge based on the specific statute violated and other relevant factors.
Degrasse's arraignment took place before United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel in Albany. He has been ordered detained pending his trial before Senior United States District Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr.
The investigation into this case is being conducted by the FBI and State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Reiner is leading the prosecution.
