The Department of Defense has announced a new Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package aimed at addressing Ukraine's critical security and defense needs. This move is part of the Biden Administration's ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine's position amidst ongoing conflicts. The latest PDA package, valued at approximately $500 million, marks the seventy-second tranche of equipment provided from DoD inventories for Ukraine since August 2021.
This package will enhance Ukraine's capabilities with various military supplies, including air defense systems, munitions for rocket systems and artillery, and anti-tank weapons. Specifically, the announcement details the provision of counter-unmanned aerial systems munitions, ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, high-speed anti-radiation missiles (HARMs), unmanned aerial systems (UAS), mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles (MRAPs), high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs), light tactical vehicles, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear protective equipment, Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems, tube-launched optically guided wire-tracked missiles (TOW), small arms ammunition, demolitions equipment and munitions. Additionally, spare parts, ancillary equipment services, training, and transportation are included.
The United States remains committed to collaborating with approximately 50 allies and partners through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and its associated Capability Coalitions to fulfill Ukraine's urgent battlefield requirements in response to Russian aggression.
