U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo Port of Entry have seized over $4.2 million in mixed narcotics during a single enforcement action this past weekend.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo Port of Entry stated, “This is a high-value, combination load of narcotics and this interception reflects our CBP officers' effective use of inspections experience, training and technology to successfully zero-in on this seizure and prevent this poison from reaching our streets.”
The incident occurred on Friday, December 13, at the International Bridge in Hidalgo, Texas. A CBP officer directed a 2013 Chrysler van for secondary inspection. During this examination, which utilized CBP canines and a non-intrusive inspection system, officers found 30 packages containing approximately 442 pounds of alleged methamphetamine and two packages with nearly 18 pounds of alleged heroin concealed within the vehicle. The total estimated street value of these narcotics is $4,294,759.
Following the discovery, CBP seized the narcotics and vehicle. The items were handed over to state and local High Intensity Drug Task Force (HIDTA) agents who arrested the driver and initiated a criminal investigation.
