A St. Paul man has admitted to committing armed robbery against U.S. Postal Service employees on two occasions, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger.
Court documents reveal that Rubin David Adams, 26, participated in a robbery on November 18, 2023. During this incident, another individual approached a letter carrier in Edina and threatened them with a handgun, demanding the "mailbox key." The victim did not possess the key but handed over two sets of USPS vehicle keys instead. The next day, Adams confronted another USPS letter carrier in Brooklyn Center. He pointed a handgun at the victim's head and stole two USPS mailbox keys.
Mailbox keys hold significant value for criminals who use them to access mail containing cash, checks, and other financial instruments. These keys are federal property, and unauthorized possession constitutes a federal offense.
Adams entered his guilty plea today to two counts of armed robbery of a mail carrier in U.S. District Court before Judge Eric C. Tostrud. His sentencing will be determined at a later date.
The investigation was carried out by multiple agencies including the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, FBI, Hennepin County Violent Offenders Task Force, Edina Police Department, Brooklyn Center Police Department, St. Louis Park Police Department, and Minnesota Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily A. Polachek is leading the prosecution of this case.
