Joshua P. Carney, a 40-year-old from Marble Falls, Texas, faced legal repercussions for violating probation terms and other offenses in Yellowstone National Park. His probation was revoked and reinstated for five years due to multiple violations including camping without a permit and having an illegal fire. Carney was sentenced to 90 days in jail for resisting arrest. According to court documents, he had been cited on September 22 for food storage violations and out-of-bounds camping. He was initially sentenced to fines and two years of unsupervised probation with a ban from Yellowstone during that period. However, on November 25, he was found in the park again, leading to further charges. Carney pleaded guilty to these violations on December 9, resulting in concurrent sentences across his cases. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariel Calmes prosecuted the case, with U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie A. Hambrick imposing the sentence.

In another case related to national parks, Sandra Pappas from Arvada, Colorado, received a conviction for driving under the influence at Yellowstone National Park. She was fined $750 and given one year of unsupervised probation with park entry restrictions.
