Netflix and Skydance Sports have announced a new documentary series focusing on the life and career of Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal. The series will provide unprecedented access to Nadal as he returns to competitive play in the 2024 season after an injury kept him out for much of 2023.

The docuseries will explore Nadal's illustrious career and personal life, featuring material from his personal archive and insights from his family, coaches, and advisors. Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slam men's singles titles including a record 14 French Open titles, is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players in history.

Zach Heinzerling, an Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning director known for works such as "Stolen Youth" and "Cutie and the Boxer," will direct the series. David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, Jason Reed, and Jon Weinbach will produce it for Skydance Sports.

Diego Ávalos, Netflix’s VP of Content for Spain, Portugal, and the Nordics stated: "Rafael Nadal stands as one of the most influential and greatest figures in the history of sports. We are excited to present his remarkable story to our members."

David Ellison, Founder and CEO of Skydance said: “Rafael Nadal is truly one of the greatest players and inspirations in the history of tennis.”

Nadal himself expressed excitement about the project: “I never thought I’d do something like this... Everyone will be able to see how my life has been during my tennis career.”

Skydance Sports has previously produced popular docuseries for Netflix including projects on Aaron Rodgers and an untitled Dallas Cowboys dynasty series. Netflix continues to expand its sports programming lineup with this new addition.
