U.S. Attorney William S. Thompson | U.S. Department of Justice
Brian Scott Murray, 51, has been sentenced to one year and four months in prison for vandalizing a federal building. The sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, Murray is required to pay $45,205.60 in restitution for causing damage to United States property exceeding $1,000.
Court documents reveal that on March 16, 2024, Murray threw rocks at the Sidney L. Christie U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building in Huntington. He admitted to breaking the outer layers of three windows on the west side of the building. Afterward, he reported his actions to officers at the Huntington Police Department. The courthouse is recognized as a historic place listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Murray's criminal history includes a prior conviction for depredation of government property in Oregon on April 8, 2019, after damaging a window at the Gus J. Solomon United States Courthouse in Portland.
United States Attorney Will Thompson acknowledged the efforts of both the Huntington Police Department and the United States Marshals Service (USMS) in their investigation.
The sentence was delivered by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers with Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams handling prosecution duties.
