U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam | U.S. Department of Justice
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced the indictment of Joseph Louis Camino, a 56-year-old resident of Braddock, Pennsylvania. The federal grand jury indicted Camino on charges related to an alleged assault on a court security officer at the Sylvia H. Rambo United States Courthouse in Harrisburg on December 16, 2024.
According to reports from the U.S. Marshal’s service, Camino was shot multiple times by another court security officer during the incident and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.
United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam stated that the indictment accuses Camino of knowingly bringing a folding knife with a blade longer than 2 ½ inches into the courthouse with the intent to assault a court security officer. It is alleged that he used this knife during the assault.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted an investigation into the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian Haugsby.
If convicted, Camino faces maximum penalties under federal law of up to 27 years in prison, supervised release following imprisonment, and fines. Sentencing would be determined by a judge based on federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.
It is important to note that indictments are only allegations, and all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
