Mifflintown man faces federal indictment for drugs and firearms

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced that Janssen Rodriguez Velez, a 27-year-old resident of Mifflintown, was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to drug trafficking and firearms.

United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam stated that the indictment accuses Rodriguez Velez of conspiring to distribute and possessing with intent to distribute cocaine in Mifflin, Pennsylvania, between February 10 and 29, 2024. Additionally, it is alleged that Rodriguez Velez had a Taurus G39mm Luger pistol in his possession during his drug trafficking activities.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) along with the Pennsylvania State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David C. Williams.

If convicted, the offenses carry a maximum penalty under federal law of lifetime imprisonment, supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. Sentencing would be determined by a judge after considering applicable federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.
