U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown | U.S. Department of Justice
United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown has announced the sentencing of two men from Acadia Parish, Louisiana, on firearms charges. The sentences were handed down by United States District Judge Robert R. Summerhays.
Tylius Arceneaux, a 35-year-old resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, received a sentence of 37 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. Arceneaux was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person. The charge stemmed from an incident on July 7, 2021, when Arceneaux was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Lafayette. During the investigation, law enforcement officers discovered he had a Beretta 9mm semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine loaded with approximately 23 rounds of ammunition. Due to his prior felony convictions, Arceneaux was prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition. He admitted to the illegal possession and pleaded guilty on September 5, 2024.
The case against Arceneaux was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Lafayette Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Lauren L. Gardner prosecuted the case.
In a separate case, Kiari Robinson, also aged 35 and hailing from Crowley, Louisiana, was sentenced to the same term of 37 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Robinson's charge arose from an incident on November 11, 2022. Narcotics agents working with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office observed Robinson's vehicle run a stop sign and attempted to initiate a traffic stop using their emergency lights. Robinson fled at high speed but eventually stopped his vehicle. Deputies found a black Glock handgun with an extended magazine on the driver’s side floorboard upon approaching his vehicle. As Robinson was previously convicted of several offenses in Acadia Parish and thus barred from possessing firearms, deputies seized the weapon.
Robinson later admitted to owning the gun during his guilty plea on September 4, 2024. The investigation into Robinson's case was conducted by ATF alongside the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney LaDonte A. Murphy.
