Juan Jose-Ambrosio, a 27-year-old resident of Onondaga County, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. The sentencing was announced by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Thomas P. Brophy, Field Office Director of U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations in Buffalo, New York.
Jose-Ambrosio had previously been deported to Mexico three times. He admitted during a previous guilty plea that he was convicted of illegal reentry into the United States in August 2023 and deported shortly after. Despite this, he returned to the U.S., where he was recently found in Syracuse, New York. His presence came to light following an arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.
At the conclusion of his prison sentence, Jose-Ambrosio will be subject to deportation once more.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-ICE-ERO with assistance from the United States Marshal Service and the Town of New Hartford Police Department. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Tuck prosecuted the case.
