A Kalispell woman has admitted to charges of fraud and aggravated identity theft in a case involving the use of stolen credit or debit cards activated with personal information from hospital patient records. U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich announced that Alecia Mae Leonetti, 50, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Leonetti faces significant penalties for her actions, including up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release for the wire fraud charge. Additionally, she faces a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison, consecutive to any other sentence, a $250,000 fine, and one year of supervised release for the aggravated identity theft charge.
The proceedings were overseen by U.S. Magistrate Kathleen L. DeSoto. Sentencing is scheduled for April 24, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen. The final sentence will be determined after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Leonetti was released pending further proceedings.
Court documents revealed that between September 2020 and December 2020, Krista Hall—Leonetti's co-defendant—was employed at Kalispell Regional Medical Center and had access to patient records due to her position there. It is alleged that Leonetti obtained stolen credit or debit cards and then contacted Hall to retrieve cardholders' personal identifying information from hospital records.
Using this information, Leonetti activated stolen cards and used them for purchases or cash withdrawals. In one incident, she acquired a Glacier Bank credit card belonging to an individual identified as John Doe and activated it using his personal details provided by Hall. Leonetti confessed to law enforcement that she incurred over $2,400 in charges at various businesses in Kalispell over two days in September 2020.
Krista Hall has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her and awaits trial.
The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with investigations conducted by the FBI and Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.
