Anchorage man charged with multiple counts related to child pornography

An Anchorage man, Anthaney O’Connor, was arrested at his home on charges related to the alleged receipt, distribution, and possession of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). The arrest follows an investigation that began after O'Connor reported another individual to law enforcement on August 13, 2024. He claimed this person wanted to commit sexual assaults against minors and had sent him CSAM along with links to applications used for accessing such content.

During a search of O’Connor’s phone, law enforcement discovered two images of CSAM reportedly sent by the individual he accused. They also found evidence suggesting O’Connor discussed creating virtual reality-generated CSAM using a photo taken of a prepubescent boy in a local store. Authorities allege he possessed approximately six AI/cartoon images depicting CSAM, four additional CSAM images, and two videos containing similar content.

On December 19, 2024, agents executed a search warrant at O'Connor's residence and uncovered more CSAM images and videos on his computer. Some of these were AI or anime depictions of prepubescent children. Additional electronic storage devices were found hidden in his bedroom closet vents; their contents are under review.

O’Connor faces one count each for receipt and distribution of child pornography and two counts for possession. Each charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge who will consider U.S. Sentencing Guidelines alongside other factors.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker for the District of Alaska and FBI Special Agent in Charge Rebecca Day from the Anchorage Field Office. The case is being investigated as part of the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force with assistance from the Anchorage Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mac Caille Petursson is prosecuting this case under Project Safe Childhood—a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.

It is important to note that criminal complaints are merely allegations; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
