Michael Lynn Russell, a 62-year-old from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for methamphetamine trafficking. Russell pleaded guilty on October 8, 2024.

Let this serve as a clear message: we will not tolerate illegal drug activity in Fuquay-Varina.”
Court documents revealed that between August and September 2022, information from a confidential source indicated that Russell was involved in drug sales at Marquee Station Apartments in Fuquay-Varina. Surveillance by law enforcement took place from September to December 2022. On December 2, officers from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Fuquay-Varina Police Department, and Drug Enforcement Administration conducted a traffic stop on Russell's vehicle following his departure from a hotel. A K-9 officer's search resulted in finding controlled substances.
During the search of Russell's person and vehicle, authorities seized two large bundles of cash totaling $10,779.00 and various drugs including methamphetamine and cocaine. Additional items such as scales and baggies were also found.
From August 2022 through May 15, 2024, Russell faced multiple arrests while possessing more drugs. He was held responsible for significant quantities of illegal substances including methamphetamine and cocaine during sentencing.
U.S. Attorney Michael F. Easley Jr., announced Russell’s sentence following its issuance by Chief Judge Richard Myers. The investigation involved cooperation between several agencies including the Drug Enforcement Administration and Fuquay-Varina Police Department.
