A Houston man, aged 49, has been convicted of illegally possessing six firearms. This was announced by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Christopher Curry admitted to being a convicted felon and intended to trade the firearms for marijuana.
Authorities arrested Curry on October 17, when they found him with six firearms in his possession. These included a shotgun, a pistol, and several semiautomatic rifles discovered in his vehicle.
Curry has three prior felony convictions, including two for drug possession and one for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Under federal law, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Senior U.S. District Judge Sim Lake accepted Curry's plea and scheduled sentencing for March 14, 2025. At that time, Curry could face up to 15 years in federal prison and a possible maximum fine of $250,000.
Curry will remain in custody until the sentencing hearing.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Houston Police Department Northeast Crime Suppression Team and the Department of Public Safety, with assistance from the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Crime Gun Strike Force.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John Ganz is handling the prosecution of this case.
