A Marshalltown man has been sentenced to 204 months in federal prison for drug and firearm offenses. Anthony James Shearer, 39, was apprehended with over 40 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in February 2024. At the time of his arrest, Shearer had absconded from parole related to a previous state drug trafficking conviction from 2020. Authorities discovered two loaded firearms in a backpack inside his vehicle.

Upon completion of his prison term, Shearer will undergo five years of supervised release, as there is no parole option in the federal system.

The sentencing announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal from the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation was conducted by the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force.
