U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced that Brett Marrapese, a 32-year-old former firefighter from Irondequoit, New York, has been sentenced to 210 months in prison. The sentence was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford following Marrapese's conviction for the distribution and receipt of child pornography.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle P. Rossi, who managed the case, revealed that between January 2016 and June 13, 2023, Marrapese utilized various digital platforms to engage in illegal activities related to child pornography. These platforms included a cell phone, laptop computer, email account, and several social media and internet chat applications such as Omegle, Kik, Snapchat, and Instagram.

During this period, Marrapese received over 600 images of child pornography from others online. He also impersonated a teenage boy to coerce minors into producing and sending him sexually explicit images of themselves. Some of these images depicted violence against and sexual abuse of children, including infants and toddlers.

The investigation leading to Marrapese's sentencing was conducted by the Irondequoit Police Department under Chief Scott Peters' direction and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
