United States Attorney Jonathan S. Ross | U.S. Department of Justice
On November 8, 2024, Jalen Lamarcus Gunn, a 21-year-old resident of Montgomery, Alabama, admitted guilt to federal robbery and firearm charges. This was announced by Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson.
Court documents reveal that on April 27, 2024, Gunn entered a convenience store located on Wares Ferry Road in Montgomery. He jumped over the counter and threatened the clerk with a firearm, demanding money be placed in a plastic bag. Gunn escaped with approximately $3,000. Two days later, on April 29th, he executed a similar robbery at another convenience store on Perry Hill Road. During this incident, he brandished a handgun at the clerk and demanded cash. He left with $2,500 and several packs of cigarettes.
Gunn has pleaded guilty to two counts of interference with interstate commerce by robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a federal crime of violence.
His sentencing hearing will occur in the upcoming months. Gunn could face seven years to life imprisonment. A federal district court judge will decide his sentence based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors since there is no parole available in the federal system.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation alongside the Montgomery Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Christopher P. Moore is handling the prosecution.
