A man from Silvis, Illinois, has been sentenced to 115 months in federal prison for firearm and ammunition possession as a felon. The sentencing took place in Davenport, Iowa.

Court documents reveal that in July 2022, law enforcement executed a search warrant on Quivadas Quadell-Lee Gaines' vehicle and residence. During the search at his home, officers found at least 40 rounds of ammunition. In the vehicle, they discovered a loaded pistol along with Gaines' driver's license and social security card. Gaines is legally prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his status as a felon.

Gaines was previously convicted in 2019 of second-degree theft in the Iowa District Court for Muscatine County. Following his prison term, he will undergo three years of supervised release since there is no parole in the federal system.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The Bettendorf Police Department conducted the investigation.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
