Two individuals from Council Bluffs have been sentenced to federal prison for firearms charges. Anthony Michael Huff and Bobbie Jo Adkins, both 37, were found guilty of possessing firearms as felons.
Court documents reveal that in December 2022, law enforcement executed a search warrant at their shared residence. A loaded 12-gauge shotgun was discovered in a bedroom alongside a marijuana grow lab, with additional ammunition located in the living room. Photos on Adkins's cell phone showed the shotgun, with Huff stating, "we got the gun."
Both Huff and Adkins are prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions. Huff was convicted in 2012 for terroristic threats in Nebraska, while Adkins was convicted in 2015 for firearm possession as a felon in Iowa.
Huff has been sentenced to 37 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Adkins received a 48-month sentence with the same term of supervised release. Federal sentences do not include parole.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The case involved investigations by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Council Bluffs Police Department; and the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
