A Boston man, Kyvon Ross, 25, has been charged in federal court with illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition. The charge stems from an incident on October 3, 2024, when law enforcement approached Ross for driving a moped at high speed without a rear license plate. It is alleged that Ross accelerated towards an officer before losing control of the moped and falling. During his arrest, he allegedly resisted violently and was found with a loaded Glock handgun with an obliterated serial number.
Ross faces one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is prohibited from possessing firearms due to multiple prior felony convictions, including a 2021 federal conviction for the same offense. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Boston Field Division announced the charges. The Boston Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives assisted in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney William F. Abely is prosecuting the case.
The allegations are part of charging documents; Ross is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
