A Richmond man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for possessing a firearm as a felon. The sentencing follows an incident on February 11, 2024, when Richmond Police responded to gunshots near a playground in the Fairfield Court neighborhood. Officers pursued two individuals seen fleeing the area and apprehended Bobby Nathaniel Scott, 39, after he tripped and dropped a rifle loaded with a 20-round magazine.
Scott's criminal history includes ten felony convictions such as domestic assault, grand theft auto, and multiple drug-related offenses. At the time of his arrest, Scott was on probation and faced additional charges in Prince George County for robbery and other violent crimes. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The announcement of Scott's sentencing was made by Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Anthony A. Spotswood of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division; Colette Wallace McEachin, Commonwealth’s Attorney for Richmond; and Rick Edwards, Chief of Richmond Police. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine E. Groover and Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia L. Norman.
