United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that Jeremy Crow, a 31-year-old man from Pine Ridge, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 77 months in federal prison for assaulting federal officers. U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler handed down the sentence on December 2, 2024.

Crow was convicted of five counts of assault on a federal officer and will serve three years of supervised release following his prison term. He is also required to pay $500 in special assessments to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. The sentences and supervision periods are to be served concurrently.

The charges stem from an incident on December 22, 2023, when a tribal officer from the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety responded to a 911 call in Pine Ridge. Upon arrival, the officer encountered Crow and an unidentified woman with facial injuries. Observing Crow's erratic behavior, believed to be due to substance influence, the officer attempted detention which led to resistance and an assault by Crow.

Crow attempted to flee in a police vehicle but was stopped by the officer who turned off the ignition. Despite being tased during arrest attempts, Crow continued resisting and bit an officer before being secured in a patrol car where he spat on another officer.

Further incidents occurred two days later at a jail facility when Crow forced his way out of his cell during meal service and bit two corrections officers while resisting capture.

The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen. Following sentencing, Crow was remanded into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
