A Cedar Rapids man, Darryl Fonte Jackson, 51, has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine. Jackson entered a guilty plea on July 1, 2024.
According to court records, law enforcement officers used a confidential informant on July 25, 2022, to purchase methamphetamine and synthetic cannabinoids from Jackson. Subsequent searches of his home and workplace revealed quantities of methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, synthetic cannabinoids, and a loaded firearm. Jackson has a prior conviction from 2006 for federal drug and gun offenses.
The sentencing was conducted by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. In addition to the prison term of 168 months, Jackson is required to serve a ten-year supervised release period following his imprisonment. The federal system does not allow parole.
Currently held in the custody of the United States Marshal's Service, Jackson awaits transfer to a federal prison facility.
Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep prosecuted the case. The investigation involved multiple agencies including the High Risk Unit of the Sixth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force which includes participation from the Linn County Sheriff's Office; Cedar Rapids Police Department; Marion Police Department; and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
