Kentucky man sentenced for illegal firearm possession

A Newport, Kentucky man, Antonio Fox, aged 37, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison. U.S. District Judge David Bunning delivered the sentence after Fox pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The incident leading to the sentencing occurred on May 23, 2024. Law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop on Fox's vehicle and discovered a loaded gun along with an extra loaded magazine during their search. Fox admitted ownership of the firearm and acknowledged his awareness of being prohibited from possessing it due to prior felony convictions.

Fox's criminal history includes two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition by a felon in 2019 and possession with intent to distribute marijuana in 2010.

Federal law mandates that Fox must serve at least 85 percent of his prison term. After completing his sentence, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years.

The sentencing was announced by Carlton S. Shier, IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Shawn Morrow, Special Agent in Charge at ATF Louisville Field Division; and Chief Brian Valenti from the Covington Police Department.

The investigation was carried out by the ATF and Covington Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Drew Spievack is handling the prosecution for this case.
