Ambassador Brian A. Nichols retires after a 36-year career in the United States Foreign Service. Serving as Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs since 2021, Nichols has worked to promote U.S. interests and provided leadership to support democracy, security, trade, and sustainable economic development in the Western Hemisphere.
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken expressed appreciation for Nichols' contributions, stating that they have "strengthened the State Department and enhanced U.S. relations with partners around the globe." Blinken also noted that Nichols' legacy will continue to influence U.S. foreign policy and bilateral relationships in the future.
