U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas, seized narcotics valued at over $6.3 million during operations over the weekend.
"CBP is proud of the work our frontline officers do to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our communities," stated Port Director Alberto Flores from the Laredo Port of Entry. "These seizures exemplify the ongoing operational efforts at our cargo facilities to detect high-risk shipments."
The first incident occurred on Friday, December 27, when a CBP officer directed a 2022 Freightliner transporting roof sealant buckets for inspection. Utilizing a canine unit and non-intrusive inspection system, officers found 29.80 pounds of suspected methamphetamine hidden within the cargo. The estimated street value of these narcotics was $266,452.
On Saturday, December 28, another seizure took place when a CBP officer referred a 2007 Freightliner carrying mechanical appliances for further inspection. Through similar methods, officers discovered 2,708.15 pounds of suspected marijuana inside the trailer with an estimated street value of $6,058,468.
Combined, these seizures totaled a street value of $6,324,920. The narcotics were confiscated by CBP while Homeland Security Investigations special agents are conducting further investigations.
