Two Philadelphia men, Naim Newsome-Bostick and Nadir Gray, have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in an armed robbery that took place in West Philadelphia in 2022. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero.
Newsome-Bostick, aged 27, received a sentence of 160 months in prison along with three years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment. His accomplice, Gray, aged 22, was sentenced earlier to 92 months in prison under similar conditions.
The charges stem from an incident on September 14, 2022, where both men admitted to robbing a man they believed to be a marijuana dealer. The robbery involved forcing the victim into their vehicle at gunpoint and stealing his Rolex watch, wallet, and $3,000. During the event, the victim resisted while inside the vehicle leading to a crash with a parked car. Newsome-Bostick subsequently shot the victim three times before both men fled the scene. The victim survived after being treated at a hospital.
Philadelphia Police arrested Newsome-Bostick later that day while Gray was apprehended by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in September 2023.
U.S. Attorney Romero emphasized the commitment of her office alongside ATF and local police to prosecute violent crimes: “Anyone who thinks they can carry out an armed robbery in this city and get off scot-free should take a good look at this case."
Eric DeGree from ATF's Philadelphia Field Office commented on the severity of the crime: “For the sake of some cash and a watch...the defendants are lucky to not be facing murder charges."
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime through community collaboration and strategic law enforcement efforts.
The investigation was conducted by ATF and Philadelphia Police Department with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorneys Robert E. Eckert and Jason D. Grenell.
