San Diego Border Patrol agents recently stopped a vehicle in Campo, California, leading to the discovery of a missing child. The incident took place on Wednesday morning when agents from the Campo Station halted an SUV traveling west on Interstate 8 near Buckman Springs Road. Inside the vehicle were a 36-year-old driver, an adult female passenger, and a 6-year-old child.

Upon verifying the identities of those in the SUV through law enforcement databases, agents found that the driver had an active warrant from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office in Texas for interference with child custody concerning the child present in the vehicle.

The driver and child were taken to a local Border Patrol station, where contact was made with the United States Marshal Service (USMS). The USMS subsequently took custody of the driver. Meanwhile, Child Protective Services took care of the child pending reunification with her family.

San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel commented on the situation: “This is yet another example of how agents’ vigilance serves our communities and nation. In this case, as they often do, agents went beyond their traditional border security duties to reunite a missing child with their family.”

The U.S. Border Patrol emphasizes maintaining high vigilance levels to prevent human smuggling and other illegal activities along corridors away from national borders. Suspicious activities can be reported by contacting 911 or San Diego Sector at (619) 498-9900.
