Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed her concern over the wildfires currently affecting Southern California. In a statement, she extended her thoughts to those impacted by the fires, saying, "My heart goes out to all those being impacted by the devastating wildfires in Southern California." She mentioned that both she and her husband, Doug Emhoff, are keeping the affected Californians in their prayers.
Harris praised the efforts of first responders who are working tirelessly to control the fires and protect communities. "We are deeply grateful for the heroic first responders who are risking their own safety to fight the flames and help keep communities safe," she stated.
The Vice President confirmed that she had been briefed on the situation and would continue to receive updates on the wildfire containment efforts. She urged residents in affected areas to heed local officials' advice and evacuate if necessary. "I am also urging residents in the affected areas to listen to local officials, remain vigilant, and evacuate immediately if told to do so," Harris emphasized.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris have committed federal resources to assist with firefighting efforts and provide support for those affected by the disaster. Harris noted that FEMA has approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant aimed at reimbursing immediate firefighting costs.
Reflecting on her personal connection to California, Harris remarked, "As a proud daughter of California, I know the damage that wildfires have on our neighbors and communities." She assured that her administration would maintain constant communication with state and local officials as recovery efforts continue.
