Secretary of State Antony Blinken convened with foreign ministers from the Transatlantic Quint to address pressing international issues. The meeting included Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, French Middle East and North Africa Director Anne Grillo, and German Political Director Günter Sautter.
The primary focus was on Syria following the fall of the Assad regime. Discussions centered on supporting the Syrian population in building a more stable future. "They reiterated the need for all groups in Syria to respect human rights, uphold international humanitarian law," stated Spokesperson Matthew Miller. Ensuring that Syria does not become a threat to neighboring countries or a base for terrorism was emphasized.
The ministers also reviewed efforts in Lebanon concerning the cessation of hostilities and highlighted ongoing support for the Lebanese Armed Forces as crucial. In addition, they addressed ending the conflict in Gaza, emphasizing returning hostages and boosting humanitarian aid.
