Jacksonville, Florida – Senior United States District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan sentenced Jucory Randell Kirtsey to 15 years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Kirtsey, aged 44 from Jacksonville, received an enhanced sentence as an Armed Career Criminal after pleading guilty on September 5, 2024.
Court documents reveal that on September 6, 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Kirtsey’s residence due to narcotics activity. Officers found a loaded Taurus pistol inside the home, which Kirtsey admitted to possessing. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law. His criminal history includes more than ten felony convictions related to narcotic sales and trafficking.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that unites all levels of law enforcement with communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence and enhance neighborhood safety. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in communities; supporting community-based organizations that prevent violence; setting focused enforcement priorities; and measuring results.
