The U.S. and Mexican governments have announced the resolution of a petition under the Rapid Response Labor Mechanism concerning Vidrio Decorativo Occidental, a glass door manufacturer in Tamaulipas, Mexico. The petition alleged that workers' rights were denied at the facility.

This development follows a request made by the U.S. on November 8, 2024, for Mexico to review the case under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement's labor mechanism.

The resolution involves several commitments from Vidrio Decorativo Occidental. The company will pay owed bonuses and back wages for salary increases to affected workers and rehire two employees who were previously dismissed. Additionally, the company issued a neutrality statement and agreed to adhere to guidelines regarding freedom of association and collective bargaining. Mexico’s Ministry of Labor will also provide training to company employees.

Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs Thea Lee stated, "We appreciate the collaboration between the Mexican government and Vidrio Decorativo Occidental to safeguard freedom of association." She emphasized that "the company has committed to fair treatment by providing bonuses owed to workers and rehiring workers who were fired after supporting a union of their choice."

Ambassador Katherine Tai remarked on the significance of this resolution, saying, "Our administration put the RRM front and center as a trade tool to positively impact the lives of thousands of workers and hold accountable corporations profiting from exploitation." She added, "We commend the government of Mexico and the company for their swift action to remediate the denials of labor rights that occurred at this facility. With the successful resolution of this case, the RRM has now directly benefitted over 42,000 workers."

Vidrio Decorativo Occidental is based in Matamoros and produces decorative door glass for sale in both U.S. markets and other international locations.
