Under Secretary of State John Bass has been engaged in diplomatic discussions during his visit to Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. His trip began in Ankara, Türkiye on January 9-10, where he met with senior Turkish government officials. The focus of these meetings was Syria, particularly the importance of a peaceful and inclusive political transition led by Syrians themselves. This approach aligns with the principles outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2254. Additionally, Under Secretary Bass participated in talks addressing regional stability, efforts to prevent Syria from being a base for terrorism, and strategies to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS.
Following his visit to Türkiye, Under Secretary Bass is scheduled to travel to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from January 11-13. In Riyadh, he will attend a multilateral meeting hosted by Saudi Arabia that includes senior government officials from the region and global partners. The aim is to coordinate international support for the Syrian people. During his stay in Riyadh, he will also conduct bilateral meetings with key partners focused on advancing shared regional and global priorities.
