The U.S. Department of Labor has announced the availability of at least $25 million in grants aimed at supporting training and employment services for incarcerated individuals. These funds are intended to assist individuals both before and after their release from state, county, or local correctional facilities.
The department's Employment and Training Administration will fund approximately 12 Pathway Home grant projects. These projects are designed to bridge the gap between an individual's release from incarceration and their enrollment in a workforce development reentry program that leads to skills-based employment.
The funding aims to provide those reentering society with essential services such as legal assistance, counseling, job search strategies, and other foundational skills prior to their release. The programs will also support Registered Apprenticeships and occupational training that lead to industry-recognized credentials, along with supportive services upon release.
Authorized by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Pathway Home 6 Grants will allow grantees to form formal partnerships with employers. Through this program, participants can earn the necessary training, skills, and credentials needed to overcome barriers in acquiring jobs or maintaining employment.
