Edward Y. Kim, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, along with Jessica S. Tisch, Commissioner of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), announced the unsealing of an indictment against Alieu Jarjou. Known by aliases "Scally" and "Lu Scally," Jarjou faces charges including racketeering conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, and a firearms offense. These charges are connected to his involvement with the "Rollin 20s" set of the Crips gang and the murder of Jadon Robinson on March 9, 2021.
Jarjou was previously in custody with the New York City Department of Correction but has been transferred to federal custody. He made his initial appearance in federal court in Manhattan, where U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos is assigned to oversee the case.
Acting U.S. Attorney Edward Y. Kim stated: “As alleged, Alieu Jarjou shot and killed Jadon Robinson on a busy Bronx street in the middle of the day. He committed this cold-blooded murder to enhance his status within the Rollin 20s Crips, a violent street gang that traffics in illegal drugs. Let this be a reminder that this Office and our law enforcement partners will catch and prosecute those who commit acts of violence in our streets.”
The indictment alleges that from January 2021 through January 2022, Jarjou was involved with the Rollin 20s Crips based in Bronx, New York. The gang reportedly engaged in activities such as murders, assaults, threats of violence, and narcotics trafficking to fund its operations and maintain control over its territory.
Jarjou is charged with several counts: one count of racketeering conspiracy which could result in life imprisonment; one count of murder in aid of racketeering carrying mandatory life imprisonment or death; one count of murder through firearm use which also carries a potential life sentence; and using a firearm during a crime of violence which similarly carries up to life imprisonment.
The maximum sentences are outlined by Congress for informational purposes only; actual sentencing will be determined by the judge presiding over the case.
Kim commended NYPD's investigative efforts regarding this case. The prosecution is managed by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christy Slavik and Jim Ligtenberg from the Violent and Organized Crime Unit.
It is important to note that these charges are accusations at this stage; Jarjou remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
