NFIB outlines top legislative priorities for new Congress

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has outlined its legislative priorities for small businesses to the new Congress. This initiative aims to emphasize the issues that are most significant to small business owners.

According to NFIB President Brad Close, "It's going to be very busy and very active. When you see an incoming administration change hands with a new President coming in, Congress and the new administration are going to be very busy trying to pass a lot of priorities – things that were talked about in the election."

A primary concern for NFIB is preventing a substantial tax increase on small businesses if the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction expires at the end of the year. A survey by the NFIB Research Center indicates that 81% of small business owners consider this deduction important.

Other key legislative policies within NFIB's Growth Agenda include labor, regulatory reform, health care, and marketplace competition. The organization encourages small business owners to participate in shaping public policy by signing a petition advocating for making the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent.

The latest episode of NFIB’s podcast, “2025 Small Business Growth Policy Priorities,” features discussions with Brad Close and Jeff Brabant, Vice President of Federal Government Relations at NFIB, on these topics.
