A Corpus Christi man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug-related charges. U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani announced that Jose Humberto Morales, aged 45, received a sentence for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in Corpus Christi.
Morales entered a guilty plea on October 24, 2024. U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos ordered him to serve 130 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release. During the hearing, the court considered evidence of Morales' extensive criminal history dating back to 1996, which includes over ten state convictions for burglary. The court emphasized the serious and repetitive nature of his criminal conduct.
The arrest occurred on May 5, 2023, when law enforcement officers identified Morales as a gang member with active arrest warrants outside a residence in Corpus Christi. Upon arresting him, they found three separate baggies containing methamphetamine totaling over 50 grams.
In a recorded jail call, Morales admitted that the meth was intended for distribution.
He will remain in custody until he is transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Corpus Christi Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Martin prosecuting.
