Taunton man sentenced for selling counterfeit methamphetamine pills

Joshua S. Levy, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts

A Taunton man, Shavon Gurley, also known as "Soo Soo," has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling counterfeit pills containing methamphetamine. The sentencing took place in federal court in Boston, with U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun presiding over the case. Following his prison term, Gurley will be subject to five years of supervised release.

In October 2024, Gurley admitted guilt to charges of distribution and possession with intent to distribute a significant quantity of methamphetamine. He was identified as part of a drug trafficking organization based in Brockton involved in distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine.

The investigation revealed that between August 2-5, 2024, undercover law enforcement officers communicated with Gurley about purchasing methamphetamine pills. On August 5, he sold over a kilogram of counterfeit Adderall pills containing methamphetamine to an undercover officer. During this transaction, Gurley offered reduced prices for larger quantities and discussed his broader drug operations.

Gurley claimed to sell high-quality fentanyl at varying prices depending on purity and boasted about potential profits from adulterating the drugs with cutting agents. He mentioned plans to reach $600,000 in profits and expressed interest in future business dealings with the undercover officer.

At the time of the sale, Gurley was on pretrial release for a domestic violence charge. A search of his residence and vehicle uncovered a loaded firearm, controlled substances believed to be fentanyl, and approximately 10,000 counterfeit Adderall pills suspected to contain methamphetamine.

Gurley's criminal history includes several prior offenses involving firearms and violence. Notably, he was convicted in 2012 for assaulting a man with a pistol and served six to ten years in state prison.

The announcement of Gurley's sentencing was made by United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Boston Division. The Taunton Police Department provided valuable assistance during the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Philip A. Mallard from the Organized Crime & Gang Unit prosecuted the case.
