Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken held a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, they signed the U.S.-Armenia Strategic Partnership Commission charter. This signing represents a significant step forward in the relationship between the United States and Armenia.
The newly signed charter aims to create new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries. Areas of focus include economic cooperation, security and defense, as well as efforts to strengthen democracy, justice, and inclusion. Additionally, there will be an emphasis on increasing exchanges between people from both nations.
Spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Mirzoyan also made two key announcements during their meeting. The first is that negotiations will begin on an agreement aimed at supporting Armenia's nuclear energy sector. Secondly, Armenia has expressed its intention to join the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.
