A Falmouth woman has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for embezzling over $1.3 million from her employer, a flooring company based in Falmouth. Susan Figuerido, 73, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin and will also face two years of supervised release following her prison term. Additionally, she has been ordered to pay restitution amounting to $1,714,921.01.
Figuerido had previously pleaded guilty in October 2025 to charges of wire fraud and filing a false tax return. Her fraudulent activities spanned from June 2015 to February 2023, during which she wrote checks to herself from her employer's bank account without recording them in the company's accounting system.
The funds embezzled by Figuerido were not reported on her federal income tax filings, leading to a tax loss estimated at approximately $353,000.
The announcement of the sentencing was made by U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy; Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Boston Division; and Thomas Demeo, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the IRS Criminal Investigations in Boston. The investigation received significant support from the Falmouth Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen A. Kearney of the Securities, Financial & Cyber Fraud Unit.
