United States Attorney Delia L. Smith announced that Danny Dennevil, also known as Danny Dorcine-Turnbull, a 34-year-old resident of Tortola, British Virgin Islands, has been sentenced to 92 days in prison. Chief District Judge Robert A. Molloy delivered the sentence following Dennevil's guilty plea for illegally bringing aliens into the United States.
Court documents reveal that on September 25, 2024, around 7:00 p.m., agents from Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations were patrolling U.S. waters near Leinster Bay, St. John. They noticed a small vessel traveling from the British Virgin Islands towards Leinster Bay without navigational lights, which is against legal requirements. The vessel was operated by Dennevil and upon arrival at Leinster Bay, two individuals disembarked.
Agents intercepted the vessel as Dennevil attempted to flee while other agents apprehended two nationals from the Dominican Republic who had disembarked. Neither individual had legal status to be in the United States. During questioning, Dennevil admitted he knew Leinster Bay was not a legal port of entry and acknowledged his passengers were citizens of the Dominican Republic.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations, and the United States Coast Guard. Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Payne prosecuted the case.
