The Department of Defense has released its Fiscal Year 2024 Strategic Management Plan Annual Performance Report, approved by Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen H. Hicks. The report outlines the department's progress in implementing strategic priorities and objectives for fiscal years 2022 to 2026.

Deputy Secretary Hicks emphasized in her letter within the report that the FY2024 Annual Performance Report (APR) highlights how the department has accelerated progress towards achieving its strategic goals. Over the past two years, DOD components have focused on aligning strategic ends with resources, improving oversight and governance mechanisms, streamlining processes, and fostering a culture of proactive performance tracking and monitoring to support executive decision-making. This approach has resulted in enhanced accountability and visibility through authoritative data.

The preparation of the FY2024 APR was led by the department's Performance Improvement Officer (PIO), who worked collaboratively with various DOD components. The report consolidates performance results across all components and communicates overall implementation progress against the Strategic Management Plan's (SMP) strategic objectives and performance goals, as well as Agency Priority Goals.

For the first time, this year's APR addresses statutory requirements outlined in Title 10, U.S.C., § 125a. It includes updates on Performance Improvement Initiatives (PIIs), which aim to accelerate enduring advantages articulated in both the National Defense Strategy (NDS) and SMP while addressing management priorities such as enterprise-wide reform and transformation.
