United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell has announced the indictment of a Kyle, South Dakota man by a federal grand jury. The individual, Vinnie Sonny Makes Good, 36, faces charges of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a spouse, intimate partner, or dating partner, sexual abuse, and aggravated sexual abuse.
Makes Good was indicted in December 2024 and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Daneta L. Wollmann on January 8, 2025. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
If convicted, Makes Good could face life imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. Additionally, he could receive up to life of supervised release and be required to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The allegations involve Makes Good assaulting his intimate dating partner on three separate occasions between March 23 and October 12, 2023. These incidents resulted in serious bodily injuries for the victim. Furthermore, on February 4, 2024, Makes Good allegedly sexually assaulted another woman who was unable to decline participation or engage in sexual intercourse.
It is important to note that these charges are accusations at this stage and Makes Good is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety is conducting the investigation with Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen prosecuting the case.
Makes Good remains in custody under the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial scheduled for March 18, 2025.
